Position Summary:
The Operations Manager reports to the Director, Operations and is responsible for managing, coordinating, and monitoring the smooth operation of transport medicine services at the base level. The primary role will be to lead and facilitate operational excellence which includes supporting staff on a day-day basis. The Operations Manager will participate in the development of policies and procedures and in the ongoing development of Operational excellence in accordance with the Ambulance Act. Building sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders is a key expectation.
The OM will work with the Operations leadership team and the Operations Communication Centre to consistently monitor and ensure optimal utilization of available resources, Following the vision, mission and values of the corporation, the Operations Managers will be responsible for moving the vision of excellence in transport medicine and patient care focused operations in the desired direction, identifying issues and providing recommendations to the Director and Vice President on strategies and developments that are responsive to anticipated needs.
Responsibilities:
Human Resource Management
- Provides support to paramedics in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient focused transport medicine services. This will be accomplished through the facilitation of improving knowledge and skills and monitoring of performance
- The OM advocates for and promotes a safe work environment including participating in the investigation of workplace injuries and the development of safe work practices and procedures in collaboration with Occupational Health and Safety
- Promotes a positive work environment by modeling professional behaviour, promoting teamwork, and collaboration with all members of the team
- Leads and facilitates team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution
- Effectively manages change utilizing current best practices and innovation
- Conducts performance reviews for direct reports
- Monitors staff absenteeism and overtime ensuring improvement strategies are addressed
Planning and Coordination
- Works with Director to plan, implement, and evaluate operational plans in accordance with Operations and individual Balanced Scorecard and milestones
- Ensures the effective and appropriate utilization of resources within Operations and at the Base level working within budgeted resources
- Participates in the ongoing development of written operational policies, procedures, and practices aligning with the strategic directions as outlined by the corporation
- Initiates opportunities to develop partnerships between key internal and external partners for the purpose of enhancing patient care
Risk Management
- Collaborates with Risk Management, OCC, and Operations leadership team to ensure provincial legislative standards and policies and procedures are met/exceeded
- Minimizes operational risk factors through sound risk management practices and strategies
- Promotes excellence in customer service by focusing culture on patient centred transport medicine services
- Leads and participates in the timely investigation, follow-up, and resolution of identified incidents, complaints, and or barriers to timely and effective service delivery
Committee Representation
- Leads and or participates in base level and or working groups and committees as required
- Leads regular base briefings and meetings with documented minutes and follow-up action plans
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, physicians, internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Excellent conflict resolution and change management skills
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development
- Must demonstrate a high level of initiative, self-direction and an innovative approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrate ability to analyze problems systematically, organize information, identify key details, identify causes and offer options.
- Education at the University or College Level.
- Minimum of 3 years management experience in a unionized environment
- Excellent mediation and facilitation skills.
- Experience with creation and administration of budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading meetings, delivering presentations, preparing correspondence, written reports, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership, management and motivational skills.
- Must be available on a rotational call basis after business hours, on weekends and holidays.

Additional Information
- 10 -30 FTE depending on base location
- Accountable for Fiscal Management of base budget
