Awards & Medals Background
Each year, the OPA Nominations Committee has a responsibility to review all nominations before each is ascended for official Honours and Decorations. The OPA Nominations Committee asks that you please review the following process:
- Award Nominations – for any individual nominated for an award, the OPA Nomination Committee will notify successful candidates upon the next awards ceremony
- Medal Nominations – for any individual nominated for a medal, the OPA will forward the nomination to the Chancellery of Honours through the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General. The Paramedic Association of Canada has been named the official partner organization to the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General.
Honours & Decorations Ceremony
Each year, the OPA will schedule an Honours & Decorations ceremony.
All successful nominees will be notified by email and will be asked to RSVP their attendance at the Honours & Decorations Ceremony.
If any recipient is unable to attend the Honours & Decorations Ceremony, we will have someone accept the award or medal on their behalf and send it by mail.
Thank You to All Paramedics
The OPA proudly receives many nominations each year and we are always impressed by the aptitude and selflessness of so paramedics across Ontario. In order to be successful, each nomination needs to meet very specific eligibility criteria that aligns with the Honour or Decoration being requested.
Please keep in mind there are many outstanding paramedics and support staff throughout Ontario who may have never received a nomination. As such, we encourage our members to keep their eyes open and nominate colleagues who meet any of the eligibility criteria for an Honour or Decoration. If a nomination is ever unsuccessful, please consider submitting a new nomination next year.
