McNally Project - Dr Paula Rowland

We are pleased to announce that the McNally Project for Paramedicine Research will be partnering with the Ontario Paramedic Association (OPA) to lead a research stream at this year's Paramedicine Expo & Conference being held on October 25 and 26 in Toronto.
The McNally Project is a grassroots initiative intended to build research capacity in paramedicine. It's a project involving a community, of and for, researchers and those hoping to become researchers with the aim of contributing knowledge to the literature on paramedicine and topics related to paramedicine. With recent and significant shifts in paramedic maintenance of certification standards and impending changes to paramedic program standards at the entry to practice level, the national competency framework and accreditation of paramedic education programs, we have focused this year's research stream on “Advancing Paramedicine Through Innovations in Education”. Within this stream we will be focusing on research related to Continuing Professional Development / Continuing Medical Education and Entry to Practice Education.

Dr Paula Rowland - Keynote Speaker
We are also excited to announce Dr. Paula Rowland as this year's keynote speaker.
Dr. Rowland is an Education Scientist with the Wilson Centre and Post MD Education (Post Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development). Dr. Rowland has a PhD in Organizational Studies and an interest in workplace learning across multiple professions. Ultimately, Paula's research aim is to elaborate on our understanding of how we learn in workplaces, particularly during attempts to improve patient care.
Advances in Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Implications for Paramedicine
Patients and the public continue to expect professional, safe, and effective care from all of their health care providers.
Continuing education plays an important role in ensuring the ongoing ability of health care providers to meet these expectations. Recently, the ways in which continuing education are considered, delivered, and evaluated have been changing across the professions. These changes require new ways to understand education, learning, and how to continue to be a health care provider in contexts of ever increasing - and competing - expectations.
In this presentation, Dr. Rowland will explore these trends in continuing education and what they might mean for paramedicine.
